This is probably my favorite album by Skinny Puppy. It is also possibly my favorite industrial album by any band in the genre. Few albums come close to capturing the insurmountable horror of pollution, drug addiction, war, A.I.D.S., and animal testing as VIVIsecVI does.

Big Black- Songs About Fucking

Artist: Big Black
Album: Songs About Fucking
Year: 1987
Genre(s): Noise Rock, Punk, Industrial Rock

Songs About Fucking is indisputably Big Black's best release. There's not one song on the entire album that isn't amazing. The band even broke up after this album came out because they wanted to stop while they were at their peak. It's sort of shitty that they broke up after only two full-lengths, but then again Shellac is still really good.

Ok, here's one last post for today. First off, apparently Nervous Gender and Beelzebub Youth are the same band just with a different configuration, so I don't know if this actually qualifies as a split. Suicide- S/T

Artist: Suicide
Album: Suicide
Year: 1977
Genre(s): No Wave, Punk, Industrial

This is Suicide's first album and I think that after giving this album a few listens, people generally end up liking something about Suicide that they can't put their finger on. It is very minimalistic to say the least; most of the music stems from little more than a synthesizer and a very old-school drum machine. Despite this, something about the vocal delivery and overall feel of the band still makes this undeniably a punk album. However, I think this album is equally important to the Industrial genre, especially in America. It's hard not to see parallels between Suicide and their British contemporaries Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. Check this album out, and keep in mind singer Alan Vega brandishing a motorcycle chain onstage to protect himself from an audience full of people who didn't realize how far ahead of its time this album was.

Track Listing:
Disc 01
  1. "Ghost Rider" - 2:34
  2. "Rocket USA" - 4:16
  3. "Cheree" - 3:42

Big Black- Atomizer

Artist: Big Black
Album: Atomizer
Year: 1986
Genre(s): Noise Rock, Punk, Industrial Rock

So this is the first post on Amputee Arms and I figured that I'd start off on a strong note with Big Black's 1986 album "Atomizer". If you haven't heard Big Black before, I would highly recommend that you give them a try. They play a special brand of noisy, punk-infused, drum machine driven music that no simple genre description could ever do justice. Steve Albini's lyrics, vocals, and over the top guitar tone come together in a way that is at once beautiful and terrifying. If nothing else, at least listen to "Kerosene" all the way through. If your tastes are anything like mine, after this point you will be addicted to Big Black in general.
