Bark Psychosis- Hex

I feel like this is one of those albums that I was the last person to find out about. Seriously, I saw this band's name floating around for a while and I didn't ever check them out until I randomly stumbled across their song "Absent Friend" on YouTube of all places. Now, I am probably the most reluctant person when it comes to liking a "Post-rock" band because of all the cliches I associate with that moniker. However, this album is far, far away from all of those cliches.

Track List:

The Loom
A Street Scene
Absent Friend
Big Shot
Fingerspit
Eyes & Smiles
Pendulum Man

Autechre- Confield

Confield (2001)

I don't know if this album is really the best introduction to Autechre, but it is definitely a fan-favorite and it was the album that really sold them to me. It is a difficult, trying experience to get through this, don't get me wrong. There is nothing "catchy" about the music here. For me, it's all about the love of texture. It's almost like harsh noise, except arranged with pinpoint precision. Each second of each mix is filled with such lush detail and sensory overload that it takes many, many listens to begin to appreciate this album. My favorite track is "Parhelic Triangle", if that means anything.

Track List:
  1. "VI Scose Poise" – 6:57
  2. "Cfern" – 6:41
  3. "Pen Expers" – 7:08
  4. "Sim Gishel" – 7:14
  5. "Parhelic Triangle" – 6:03
  6. "Bine" – 4:41
  7. "Eidetic Casein" – 6:12
  8. "Uviol" – 8:35
  9. "Lentic Catachresis" – 8:29

The Chameleons

Wow. I cannot believe that it's been over a year since I've uploaded anything on here. To be honest, around this time last year some crazy things were going on in my life and I forgot all about this. Then today, I was downloading so much music from other people's blogs that I felt it was time for me to actually contribute again.

What would be a better place to start than with a band that has had a very strong impact on me these last few months: The Chameleons. I can not give this band enough attention. I cannot stress enough how great these three albums are. I could compare them to other bands like The Cure or the Cocteau Twins, but it really does not do them justice. There was no other band from their time or since that sounds quite like them.

Their first album, Script of the Bridge, is absolutely flawless, I kid you not. My personal favorites are "Don't Fall" (possibly the catchiest song ever written about tripping mushrooms), "Second Skin" (maybe my favorite track; i just LOVE how the actual chorus doesn't come in until 75% of the song is over), "Less Than Human", and "View From A Hill". If you only wanted to download one of these albums, this should be that album.

Track List:
  1. "Don't Fall" – 4:06
  2. "Here Today" – 3:57
  3. "Monkeyland" – 5:17
  4. "Second Skin" – 6:51
  5. "Up the Down Escalator" – 3:57
  6. "Less than Human" – 4:12
  7. "Pleasure and Pain" – 5:11
  8. "Thursday's Child" – 3:32
  9. "As High as You Can Go" – 3:35
  10. "A Person Isn't Safe Anywhere These Days" – 5:43
  11. "Paper Tigers" – 4:17
  12. "View from a Hill" – 6:39

What Does Anything Mean? Basically (1985)

On their sophomore album, they seem to have expanded the dream-like/effects-loving element that was found in many of their previous songs. My favorite song on here is "Perfume Garden" by a landslide, but "P.S. Goodbye" and "Nostalgia" are both incredible as well.

Track List:
  1. "Silence, Sea and Sky" – 2:00
  2. "Perfume Garden" – 4:36
  3. "Intrigue in Tangiers" – 5:15
  4. "Return of the Roughnecks" – 3:24
  5. "Singing Rule Britannia (While the Walls Close In)" – 4:13
  6. "On the Beach" – 4:09
  7. "Looking Inwardly" – 4:28
  8. "One Flesh" – 4:27
  9. "Home is Where the Heart Is" – 4:52
  10. "P.S. Goodbye" – 4:10
  11. "In Shreds" - 4:03
  12. "Nostalgia" - 5:23
